A successful businessman, Henri Gardner owns and operates his own business. He knows how to create jobs, because he’s done it for years. Along with his Council colleague, Councilmember Diane Polangin, District 2, Henri introduced, assisted with organizing, and hosting the City of Bowie’s first Job Fair. In attendance there were 30 Washington, DC Metro Area hiring employers, and over 400 Bowie residents who were seeking jobs. Thus far, the job fair has yield 73 jobs for our city residents. Some of the employers in attendance were Comcast, Sirus XM, Walmart, Blue Cross CareFirst, Amtrak, and Prince Georges County Police Dept., and Dept of Corrections.

A plan to strengthen our economy

  • Support sensible economic development that respects private property rights
  • Loosen restrictions and provide incentives for businesses so they can focus on expanding and creating jobs
  • Reduce regulations on small businesses so they can more freely operate and succeed
  • Continue to protect City of Bowie Core Services without raising taxes or fees
  • Pro-actively seek and recruit businesses to relocate to Bowie and bring new jobs
  • Assisting residents in prevention of home foreclosures

Henri Gardner was appointed to the Council in January 2011 to fulfill the remainder of the At-Large term vacated by current Del. Geraldine Valentino-Smith.

Henri, born in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Norfolk, VA, is a graduate of Old Dominion University. He served in the United States Armed Forces in both the U.S. Air Force Reserves as Crew Chief on the C-5 Galaxy as well as the U.S. Army Reserves as a Combat Medic/Practical Nurse.

Henri has extensive professional experience in human resources, information and telecommunication technology, human capital and business development. Previously, Henri served as Vice President for Business Development at Obverse, Inc., Recently, Henri set out to do the same as many people have done before him, in becoming a small business owner. CAISS, Capital Area Information Systems and Solutions, LLC., a certified veteran owned business enterprise located in Washington, DC., is a firm which was established to assist both government and commercial organizations meet their requirements of project-program management and technology.

Henri’s community and civic involvement includes his active membership with the Governor Oden Bowie Democratic Club, volunteer with the Bowie Interfaith Food Pantry, Board Member with the Ronald H. Brown Foundation, Williams Life Center and Asymmetric a non-profit musical education scholarship program. Recently, Henri has become an active supporter of Y.I.M.E, Youth In Music and Education a non-profit which provides services and guidance to disadvantage youth who reside in both Prince Georges County and the District of Columbia.

As a part of his Council work, Henri is a member of the Climate Energy and Environment Policy Committee with the Council of Governments. He’s also the City Council Liaison to the City of Bowie Environmental Advisory Committee. Henri serves a member of the Maryland Municipal League's 2011-2012, Hometown Emergency Preparedness Ad-hoc Committee (HEPAC). This special committee has the responsibility of working with the Maryland Municipal League staff to develop safety and emergency preparedness programs which cities and towns can easily adopt for their use. Lastly, Henri is a former member of the City of Bowie Economic Development Committee.

He is a member of Covenant Baptist Church in Washington, DC and is a frequent visitor to the Judah Temple AME Church in Bowie, MD.
